The “Malton Youth Hub” project involved a full asbestos removal and partial demolition of the existing community centre and pool resulting in a complete transformation of the current building into a new program dedicated to the Youth Hub, which provides services, programs and social/cultural activities that reflect the local community needs.
The current pool facility was closed and decommissioned with no access to the public. The new Malton Youth Hub is a 1,696m2, two-story facility and will be managed and operated by SHIP (Services and Housing in the Province of Ontario). This renovated space will include programs such as a new commercial teaching kitchen, multipurpose rooms, dance studio, recording studio, administration offices and local agency dedicated program spaces.
This existing Olympic size pool facility was in-filled to create the two-story facility which featured a large and vibrant two-storey atrium space that will serve as a central multi functional space to the Youth related programs.
The Hub access will be through the current parking lot which was resurfaced and to incorporate a newly redesigned lighting system, and new fire route and accessible parking complying with the City’s FADS accessibility requirements.
The front entrance of this new Youth Hub features a new accessible covered ramp, which also includes new sliding doors and independent circulation stair for the second floor program spaces.
