DDSB Rosemary Brown Public School

A new 2 storey French immersion elementary school, built on a 5.0 acre site located in the north Ajax area, and next to a future parkette. The school design incorporates 2 kindergarten classrooms, 10 primary/ junior classrooms, on the ground floor, along with a general-purpose room with an adjacent stage, community hub room, and main administrative offices. The 2nd floor consists of 10 senior classrooms, including an instrumental music classroom, an environmental classroom, and art classroom. The overall building’s GFA is approximately 57,000 square feet.

The proposed school site is located on Williamson Drive, adjacent to an existing round-about, in Ajax. This existing road condition restricts the access onto the site to the west side only. Due to the small site area, the design challenge in itself, was to create a solution which allowed for the vehicular traffic including school buses to operate in an orderly fashion. Locating the school building footprint closer to the street, allowed for enough child play area, and a round-about on the north side of the site, allowing the vehicular flow to work reasonably well.
